Pain Relief That Starts With a Mold Made Just for You
Custom orthotics can support your feet, ankles, knees, spine, or upper limbs based on your condition and mobility goals. At our Overland Park clinic, we evaluate how you stand and move, then recommend a custom or off-the-shelf device suited to your needs.
For more than a decade, Cotton Orthotic and Prosthetic Associates has fitted custom orthotics in Kansas City for a variety of patients. Assessments, measurements, fittings, and adjustments are completed through our Overland Park clinic.
What Can Custom Orthotics Help With?
Custom orthotics may be recommended for concerns such as:
- Plantar fasciitis: Foot orthoses can provide targeted cushioning and arch support to help manage heel and arch discomfort.
- Flat feet or fallen arches: A custom device can redistribute pressure and support foot alignment during standing and walking.
- Knee pain or instability: A knee orthosis may provide alignment, stability, protection, or controlled movement based on the diagnosis.
- Diabetic foot concerns: Specialized foot orthoses can redistribute pressure and help protect areas at risk for skin irritation or breakdown.
- Post-surgical recovery: Orthoses may stabilize or limit movement while a joint or limb heals, based on the treating provider’s plan.
- Neuromuscular conditions: Custom bracing may support alignment, stability, and safer movement for certain conditions.
You are welcome to call even if you are unsure what type of support you need. Prescription and referral requirements can vary by condition and insurance plan, so our team will explain what is needed before your appointment.
Custom Orthotic Devices for Every Part of the Body
Custom orthotics in Kansas City can include much more than shoe inserts. Depending on your diagnosis and support needs, options may include:
- Ankle-foot orthoses, knee braces, and knee-ankle-foot orthoses
- Hip orthoses and spinal supports
- Hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder orthoses
- Positional supports and fracture-management devices
We also offer select off-the-shelf devices when a fully custom solution is not necessary.
What is the Difference Between Drugstore Insoles and Custom Orthotics?
A drugstore insole adds cushion, and for a minor ache, it may be all you need. Custom orthotics are made from measurements or impressions of your feet and selected around your anatomy, gait, pressure patterns, activity level, and clinical needs. During a consultation, we can help determine whether an over-the-counter or custom option is appropriate.
For custom foot orthoses, we evaluate your feet, footwear, gait, and pressure patterns, then take the measurements, impressions, or scans needed for fabrication. When the orthoses are ready, we check their fit in your shoes and make adjustments as needed.
Orthotic Care for All Ages, Adjusted as You Change
Orthotic care is led by Dan Cotton, an ABC-certified prosthetist-orthotist. Our team coordinates with your referring providers and supports you through evaluation, fitting, and follow-up care. We coordinate with your orthopedic surgeon and rehabilitation team so your brace or insole works with the rest of your treatment plan. We fit patients of all ages, from toddlers in a first AFO to older adults who want to stay independent.
As your body, activity level, or footwear changes, contact us for a fit check. We can evaluate whether your orthotic needs an adjustment, repair, or replacement. Existing patients with an urgent device problem can call (913) 338-2672 for after-hours assistance.
