Meet Richard Davis, Certified Prosthetic Assistant

Richard is from Knob Noster, MO. He currently lives there with his wife and 3 children. He graduated from Knob Noster High School in 2007, and studied at the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg. Richard enjoys spending time with his family, and his hobbies include skateboarding as well as recording and playing music. He played Bass Guitar in the Middle School Jazz Band, and enjoys playing guitar, drums, and keyboard as well.

Richard served in the United States Marine Corps from 2008 to 2016, where he worked in Radio and Satellite Communications and completed two tours of Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. He went on to become an Information Security Technician and the Communications Security Manager for 1st Intelligence Battalion, Camp Pendleton, CA, while returning to college and receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Entrepreneurship from Ashford University, San Diego, CA.

In 2016, Richard moved back to Missouri, where he started working at the Kansas City VA Hospital’s prosthetics department. He found new interest in prosthetics while working with amputees and various practitioners during his time at the KCVA. He began working with Cotton Orthotic and Prosthetic Associates in 2017, and continued his education through DeVry University. Richard completed a Bachelor’s certificate in Medical Billing and Coding during 18 months of on-the-job training in prosthetics and orthotics. He was certified by the American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics, & Pedorthics (ABC) as a Prosthetic Assistant in 2019.

Richard has five years of experience in direct patient care with prosthetic and orthotic devices. His duties include new patient education, casting and measuring extremities for prosthetic fittings, modifications to and fabrication of prosthetic sockets, as well as follow up visits and adjustments. Richard also has experience in orthopedic device repair, shoe repair, and orthopedic shoe modifications. Richard is passionate about helping each patient achieve and maintain the active and independent lifestyle that they deserve.
